ABOUT
A San Francisco native, Darlene became an art lover early - spending her free time drawing and painting and exploring the City’s museums and libraries. Her primary medium is oil painting. She uses pencil, charcoal, pastel, and water media for sketches and studies, but says nothing comes close to the lusciousness of oil painting where she uses brushes, wedges, scrapers, and sometimes rags in her painting process.
Darlene trained in traditional drawing and painting methods and techniques at the Pacific Art League, Palo Alto CA. She paints in a figurative style, influenced by the California Figurative and Abstract Expressionist schools, among others. Her paintings are inspired by the world around her - places far and near, still life, interiors and people - portrait, figure and social scenes. Her work has been shown and awarded in numerous juried and group shows and is in corporate and private collections. Currently living and working in Gig Harbor Washington, she teaches drawing at Tacoma Community College and is a Signature Member of the Peninsula Art League
